O.M.S Periodontal pocket probes (that stands for Orban’s Modified-Straight probe) are vitally used in dental procedures to measure the depth of periodontal pockets. These pockets can be a cause of inflammation and infection leading to periodontal disease.

This dental instrument is recommended by American Dental Association (ADA) and World Health Organization (WHO) to assess the health of a patient periodontium (the tissue that supports the teeth). This dental probe features a slender, straight, and tapered tip that allows for easy insertion into the periodontal pocket. It has markings on it in millimeters with the first marking at 1 mm and subsequent markings every millimeter thereafter. This probe is inserted into the space between the gum and the tooth to measure the depth of the periodontal pocket and note the depth of the probe tip at the gumline.
