Boley measuring instrument also referred to as Boley Gauge is an essential dental tool that comprises a fixed scale and a sliding scale.

The boldface numbers at the fixed scale are in cm. the numbers 1 and 2 on the fixed scale represent 10 mm (1cm) and 20 mm (2cm) respectively. This instrument features a flat end that is good enough for measuring the distance of spaces in the mouth as well as teeth size.

The zero mark on the Boley Gauge sliding scale is the basis for determining the mm amount of the fixed scale. Depending on its location, the number of millimeters is determined. For example, if it's between 11mm and 12mm, then the whole mm amount is 11mm and if it's between 12mm and 13mm, it's 12mm. It's important to keep in mind that the zero tick on the sliding scale does not count as 1.

Determine the most accurate tenths of a millimeter measurement by comparing the tick marks on the Boley Gauge's sliding and fixed scales.
